Amazon Freevee is staying in business with Judge Judy Sheindlin, ordering two additional seasons of her Daytime Emmy Award-winning series “Judy Justice.” The streamer has also greenlit “Justice on Trial,” a never-before-seen courtroom docudrama featuring testimony and reenactments based on actual court transcripts. It marks the third original series created and executive produced by Sheindlin for Amazon Freevee, including “Tribunal Justice,” which premieres Friday, June 9 on the service.

Since its launch in November 2021, “Judy Justice” has emerged as Amazon Freevee’s No. 1 Original program in hours watched, with customers viewing more than 150 million hours to date. Now in its second season, all-new episodes will continue to release every weekday through Friday, June 9. During its debut season, the show won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program. Episodes from Seasons 1 and 2 are also available for On Demand viewing through the show’s FAST channel.

“Justice on Trial” is a new exploration of the American justice system through the vehicle of a docudrama, exploring the footings of American jurisprudence—including what children are taught in school, police diligence as opposed to overreach, and individual rights versus the greater good. Some of these thought-provoking and controversial topics have been the subject of Supreme Court rulings. “Justice on Trial” will examine these seminal rulings through a combination of sometimes-heated courtroom debate, lively civil discourse, and common-sense legal analysis.

“‘Justice on Trial’ explores, through reenactment, some of the most famous and infamous cases in this country and their impact on every American,” said Sheindlin in a statement. “There has never been a program like it. It is smart and compelling TV.”

Speaking on the two-season renewal of her daily court show, Sheindlin said, “How shall I describe my feelings about Amazon Freevee’s renewal of ‘Judy Justice’? Gratifying, certainly. Grateful, of course. In exploring the continued success of the program, I do believe that people long to see old-fashion justice administered with an even hand. A little humor doesn’t hurt. I intend to deliver both for as long as I’m able.”

“Over the course of two seasons on Amazon Freevee, Judge Sheindlin has delighted her long-standing fans and won over a new streaming audience with her no-nonsense approach to resolving every dispute on ‘Judy Justice,’” said Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD Originals, unscripted, and targeted programming, Amazon Studios. “With Justice on Trial, we look forward to offering our audience new opportunities to learn more about the legal process and the laws that govern our lives, as Judge Sheindlin goes beyond the bench to educate us all on landmark cases that have shifted our world.”

Joining Sheindlin in her “Judy Justice” courtroom are bailiff Kevin Rasco, a retired Los Angeles probation officer; court stenographer Whitney Kumar, a board-certified court reporter in the state of California; and newly minted lawyer Sarah Rose, who serves as the law clerk.

“Judy Justice” is executive produced and directed by Randy Douthit and co-executive produced by Amy FreislebenScott Koondel is also an executive producer.
